Educational Lead Developer

 

Unit/Project Description:

 

The Indigenous Health Learning Lodge (IHLL) requires a Curriculum Developer to support development of Indigenous curriculum to comply with the TRC calls to action 23 & 24 across the Faculty of Health Sciences. This role will collaborate with the IHLL team, core curriculum group & faculty to develop curriculum standards for the FHS. This role is best suited to Indigenous individuals, or individuals with extensive knowledge of indigenous community, worldview and teachings.

Job Summary:

Responsible for designing initiatives in the areas of curriculum change, teaching methods, assessment, and educational research methods, in consultation with the Assistant Dean, Program Directors, and Faculty. Contributes to the development, implementation, research and ongoing evaluation of innovative approaches to curriculum research, design, and delivery.

Purpose and Key Functions:

  • Provide advice, guidance, strategies, and expertise related to curriculum advancement and delivery.
  • Design, develop, and implement curriculum, instructional methods, educational materials, and assessment strategies for learners in consultation with the Assistant Dean, Program Directors, and Faculty.
  • Identify and implement pedagogically sound teaching and learning methods for delivery of educational activities within the medical education environment.
  • Using theory driven evaluation methods, determine and implement revisions as part of ongoing quality improvement. Performs basic analyses using statistical software and interprets results and report findings.
  • Liaise and collaborate with staff and faculty involved in medical education in the development of engaging and innovative educational programs and resources.
  • Foster an environment of collaboration where best practices are identified and shared across all postgraduate training programs.
  • Conduct and participate in scholarly work in education, including sharing of innovations and/or research in local, national, and international venues.
  • Create and deliver educational sessions that are designed to effectively meet the needs of stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and incorporate educational technology options that optimizes faculty and residents learning, and enhances engagement at Distributed Medical Education sites.
  • Propose budget allocation for education events to the Manager and maintain accurate accounts of spending.
  • Ensure accreditation standards from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the College of Family Physicians of Canada are reflected in activities.
  • Liaise with teams to co-create and deliver activities related to competency based medical education.
  • Collaborate on a regular basis with the Assistant Dean, Program Directors, other faculty members, and residents, to ensure appropriate topics are covered within planned sessions/events.
  • Facilitate and deliver group workshops, seminars, classes, courses, and preparation sessions.
  • Write promotional text and plan marketing and advertising initiatives for programs and services offered.
  • Conduct periodic scans of post-secondary educational institutions worldwide to ensure services reflect current best practices and meet or exceed industry benchmarks.
  • Develop and implement knowledge transfer strategies and write a variety of communication and information dissemination documents and correspondence such as newsletters, bulletins, and reports.
  • Maintain and update associated parts of website content.
  • Track and monitor program participation rates.
  • Maintain a literature and bibliographic database for internal retrieval and external requests.
  • Negotiate external services with suppliers and contractors by obtaining and collecting quotes from multiple suppliers.
  • Plan and manage budget to ensure costs for events are on track, adjusts budget forecasts to accommodate unforeseen expenses.
  • Ensure ethical conduct of program activities and the confidentiality of program participants.

Supervision:

  • Provides functional guidance to others on an ongoing basis.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Education, Adult Learning, or related field.
  • Requires 4 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience creating and delivering educational sessions

Additional Information:

This position may require you to work outside of regular work schedule including evenings and weekends to meet operational demands.  On occasion, the position may require travel.
