Description
Board Chair and members will be part-time appointments made through Order in Council for a term of up to five years. The Board will be responsible for making critical conditional release decisions for parole-eligible inmates serving sentences of less than two years in provincial correctional centers.
Board and Chair accountabilities will include:
• Hearing parole applications by way of file review, tele-conference or in-person appearance;
• Making appropriate release decisions based on the parole application and relevant legislation and policies (e.g. Corrections and Conditional Release Act (CCRA), Corrections Act)
• Providing timely and comprehensive written explanation of decisions;
• Setting conditions of release for granted parole applications;
• Assessing suspensions and authorizing revocation or reinstating suspended parole.
Chair specific accountabilities will include:
• Assigning parole hearings to Board members;
• Chairing re-examination and review hearings;
• Assessing suspensions and authorizing revocation or reinstating suspended parole certificates;
• Conducting reviews of Board decisions to ensure compliance with legislation;
• Providing the Minister or designate with regular updates on the Board’s operations;
• Ensuring the board conducts an annual evaluation of its performance;
• Overseeing compliance with all relevant policies, procedures and standards by which the APB operates and ensuring that it operates at all times in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
