The Environmental Assessment Office is an independently administered office within the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy. The Ministry is responsible for the effective protection, management and conservation of BC's water, land, air and living resources. It leads work on climate preparedness and adaptation and leads plans to meet greenhouse gas reduction targets.

The Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) is a stand-alone, neutrally administered regulator that is required by law to conduct rigorous reviews of major projects in B.C. that are some of the largest resource development projects in Canada. These reviews require active EAO engagement with scientific professionals, Indigenous Nations, proponents, the public, local governments, and federal and provincial agencies.

The Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM), Environmental Assessment Operations is accountable for all aspects of environmental assessments in British Columbia. The ADM leads the Operations Division in EAO and is responsible for developing a motivated and highly engaged team, as well as building collaborative working relationships with other ministries, local and federal governments, Indigenous Nations, stakeholders, and the public. The ADM also proposes and leads the implementation of innovations to help support EAO's vision of excellence in environmental assessment.

The ideal candidate is a senior leader with the strategic orientation to manage high profile and complex issues within tight timelines. They possess the acumen necessary to balance interests while demonstrating exceptional diplomacy and integrity in order to manage relationships. They also have demonstrated skills in leadership and innovation and have managed projects, programs and initiatives to successful outcomes. In addition to the experience required, they will have a university degree in a related discipline.
