The Department of English & Cultural Studies invites applications for the following teaching position to be offered in the 2021-22 session.

Wage Rate *:                                 $7630.55 (to be confirmed as per schedule "A" of the upcoming CUPE Local 3906, Unit 2 Collective Agreement)

Start Time and Duration :             3 hours seminar/week (Thursday 10:30am-1:30pm)


Course Description/Relevant Employment Duties

This course examines how settler colonial states have tried-and repeatedly failed-to transform the lands and lives they seek to govern. With a focus on the Canadian context, we will examine techniques for mediating state power, including maps, photography, and identity documentation. Our analysis will be guided by the critical work of Indigenous, Black, and Asian artists, as well as methods drawn from visual studies, media theory, Indigenous studies, and critical race theory.

Required Qualifications

PhD completed in a relevant field. The successful applicant must have appropriate academic qualifications, at least two years previous experience teaching at the university level, a commitment to incorporating principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in teaching practice, and an active and current research profile.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience teaching a graduate level university course.

*Supplemented Fees- 15.02(a) The employee may be eligible to receive supplemented fees in accordance with Schedule C of the Collective Agreement.  The actual rate of pay when in excess of the base rate of pay is deemed to include any supplemented fees owing, to the extent of the excess amount.  If the actual rate of pay is less than the sum of the base rate of pay and the supplemented fees owing, then the employee shall receive the difference.
