Wages:

$7,630.55

Wage Rate*: As per schedule “A” of the CUPE, Local 3906, Unit 2 Collective Agreement, the Sessional Faculty rate is $7,630.55 for 3 units.  Applicants must include information regarding current and/or aggregate seniority as defined in Article 20.                     

Course Description/Relevant Employment Duties

Through on-campus experiential placements (embedded mentorship), students will participate in the peer mentoring of international students in the McMaster English Language Development (MELD) program. Students receive upfront training and ongoing support in mentorship, using aspects of the learning-centred mentoring paradigm (reciprocity, collaboration and the elaboration of mutually-defined goals). Students document their learning through a structured portfolio. Prior to beginning mentorship placements, students will participate in intensive training workshops (start of term) on: second language learning, reflective practice, goal-setting, and cross-cultural communication. Discussion and placements (three hours), training sessions; one term.

Required Qualifications

The successful applicant must have a Master’s degree. Leadership experience in an academic or industry environment. Experience teaching a similar course or workshop series.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD degree or near completion and experience teaching at a University level.

 

*Supplemented Fees- 15.02(a) The employee may be eligible to receive supplemented fees in accordance with Schedule C of the Collective Agreement.  The actual rate of pay when in excess of the base rate of pay is deemed to include any supplemented fees owing, to the extent of the excess amount.  If the actual rate of pay is less than the sum of the base rate of pay and the supplemented fees owing, then the employee shall receive the difference.
