Child Protection Social Worker - Rural and Remote Team
$55,396.19 - $72,937.86 annually (Growth) plus 1 Grid Temporary Market Adjustment at the full working level

The child safety team based in Prince George is looking for a community-oriented, mindful team member to join them and the constellation of other community and professional supports as they collaborate and cooperate with children, youth and families to uncover possibilities to empower them in their resilience. The team has the honour and privilege of working with several Indigenous communities in the surrounding areas, offering a unique experience to engage with and learn from community in deep and meaningful ways.

The Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) promotes and develops the capacity of families and communities to care for and protect vulnerable children and youth, and supports healthy child and family development to maximize the potential of every child in B.C. The Ministry is responsible for regional and province-wide delivery of services and programs that support positive and healthy outcomes for children, youth and their families.

Working under the legislated authority of the Child, Family and Community Service Act, the Child Protection Worker promotes, assesses, supports, empowers and monitors the capacity of caregivers and communities to provide for the safety and well-being of children and youth. The Child Protection Worker works in alignment with the guiding principles that children and youth are entitled to be protected from abuse, neglect and harm or threat of harm and that a family is the preferred place for the care and upbringing of children. The Child Protection Worker provides services in ways that engage and collaborate with children, youth, families and communities and are sensitive to the diverse cultural, racial and religious heritage of those receiving services.

Qualifications for this role include:
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work, Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Child and Youth Care; OR
• Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare. Completion of a practicum in family and child welfare occurs in an agency/organization where a student had the opportunity to practice assessing the needs of children and families to develop and provide intervention services to the children and/or families; OR
• Employee applicants who have a combination of relevant education, Ministry experience and who are eligible for delegation under the CFCSA may be considered equivalent to the above requirements; OR
• Degree in a Human Services field PLUS a minimum of two years of *recent work experience, within the last five years, obtained during and/or after completing the required degree; OR
• Diploma/certificate in a Human Services field obtained AFTER completion of an unrelated degree PLUS a minimum of two years of *recent work experience, within the last five years, obtained during and/or after completing the required education.
