Contractually Limited Appointment, Assistant Professor in Theatre and Film Studies

 

The School of the Arts at McMaster University invites applications for a one-year contractually limited appointment in Theatre and Film Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor to commence August 1, 2020. The successful candidate will have an MFA or PHD, or equivalent professional experience, with a demonstrated record of effective teaching in a program with a significant performance component at the university level. The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of devised theatre, performance art, and video art histories and practices.  Experience working as a dramaturge would also be an advantage. They will be comfortable teaching in both traditional classrooms and studio settings. The successful candidate will teach 21 units (seven one-term courses) over 3 terms, assigned in alignment with the candidate’s skills and experience. Courses in the Fall and possibly the Winter term will all be taught remotely, so we are especially interested in candidates with demonstrated success teaching in virtual and/or online formats. The successful candidate will also contribute to the administrative work of the School including participation in the development of a new integrated arts curriculum.

The School of the Arts is committed to interdisciplinarity and the integration of critical theory and arts practice at all levels of its programs. Evidence of thinking and practice that crosses traditional arts disciplines in the candidate’s teaching and arts research (performance practice and/or academic publication) would be an advantage. Demonstrated strength in critical theories (indigenous studies, feminist studies, critical race studies, critical disability studies, gender studies, and/or queer studies) would be also be considered favourably.

McMaster University is a research-intensive, teaching-centered institution in Hamilton, Ontario (70 km/43 miles from Toronto and 104 km/64 miles from Buffalo).
