Located within the traditional un-ceded territory of our Coast Salish and established in 1991, Vancouver Native Health Society (VNHS) is a non-profit charitable organization with over 700 members and volunteers. VNHS was created to address the lack of healthcare for urban Aboriginal people in Greater Vancouver, with a mission to improve and sustain the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health of individuals. The philosophy of VNHS was founded on an Aboriginal understanding of the deep connection between individual well-being and community; good health in one is essential to good health in the other.

Reporting to the Board of Directors and working within the context of the Aboriginal centered organization, the Executive Director is responsible for planning and leading the service, programming and funding objectives required to achieve Vancouver Native Health Society’s strategic objectives. The Executive Director has direct oversight of operations including staff leadership, financial viability, as well as the coordination of the day-to-day operations, programming and services. The Executive Director builds and maintains strong relationships with the Board, staff, health care providers, government agencies and the broader community with a commitment to ensuring a culturally safe and respectful healing environment.
Education RequirementsThe candidate will have a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree (in a relevant program area including, but not limited to, healthcare, social work, non-profit leadership) with over five years of progressive leadership experience. Experience and understanding of working with Aboriginal people are required.
ExperienceThe successful candidate will be a progressive leader with a demonstrated understanding of the delivery of multidisciplinary programs and services designed to meet the needs of clients struggling with complex social challenges and concurrent health issues. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational abilities with excellent interpersonal, financial, governance and strategic planning skills; as well as a commitment to community and public health.
