We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance the department's current research and teaching strengths. We welcome strong interdisciplinary research backgrounds in any area focusing on Asian and Asian diaspora studies, but all candidates must demonstrate the connection of their research to the field of Education in a Canadian context, as well as a strong social justice orientation. The successful candidate will have experience in mixed research methodologies (using both qualitative and quantitative approaches) as well as a solid grounding in educational theory, policy, and praxis from intersectional and anti-colonial perspectives. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching interests include a focus on any of the following: Muslim populations and diasporas; migration/immigration; diaspora and refugee education; equity issues in educational policy; anti-Asian racism; Islamophobia; and/or political economy.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.

Evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level is required, as demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, strong letters of reference, and a teaching dossier submitted as part of the application (including required materials outlined below). The successful candidate will be committed to the academic success of all our students and foster an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates diversity and difference.

The successful candidate will be expected to pursue independent and innovative research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. Other responsibilities of the position include teaching and supervising a diverse body of students in SJE's graduate degree programs, service to SJE and to OISE, and working collaboratively with related units across OISE and the University of Toronto. It is expected that the successful candidate will work effectively, respectfully, and collaboratively in diverse and inclusive settings.
