We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Powerhouse Engineer to be part of our Keeyask Project for approximately 50 months. The work location will be at the Keeyask construction site with single status accommodations. You will  reside in a modern construction camp hotel-like facility that is among the highest quality facilities of its kind in the country. The Keeyask Camp includes top notch recreation facilities including full gymnasium with two sports courts, indoor running track, weight  room, games room, movie theater and restaurant-style dining complex. Staff will work a rotational schedule that consists of 21 days at the Keeyask site followed by 7 days off. You must be prepared to travel and work outside normal business hours and you will be  required to take Cross Cultural Awareness Training at the project site. Airfare and transportation to site will be provided by Manitoba Hydro.

The Keeyask Project is a collaborative effort between Manitoba Hydro and four Manitoba First Nations – Tataskweyak Cree Nation, York Factory First Nation, Fox Lake Cree Nation and War Lake First Nation – working together as the Keeyask Hydropower Limited Partnership (KHLP). The project is located 725 kilometers northeast of Winnipeg on the lower Nelson River and 30 kilometers west of Gillam, Manitoba.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist and offer guidance to the inspections staff performing jobsite inspections to ensure compliance with drawings, specification and accepted standards of workmanship.

  • Assist and offer guidance to the inspections staff inspecting foundation cleaning, formwork, reinforcement, concrete batching, concrete placement, concrete curing, architectural elements, steel structures, cladding, roofing and all other items related to the construction of a generating station.

  • Compile and organize photographs, tests results, materials and equipment used, person hours worked, work areas available and any other related information that document how the construction progressed to completion.

  • Prepare daily/weekly reports identifying any issues with respect to quality, schedule or productivity.

  • Aid in the review of the required submittals prior to commencing the work.

  • Update and record field revisions to the work for the purposes of preparing "As-Built" Documents.

  • Assist in gathering the information required in the response to "Requests for Information" submitted by the Contractor.

  • Establish and maintain close liaison with the Contractor's personnel on all aspects of the work.

  • Assist in ensuring the work is carried out with respect to Manitoba Hydro's Safety System and Environmental Management System.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate in Civil Engineering from a University of recognized standing with a minimum of four years of related experience.

  • Membership in APEGM.

  • Working knowledge of civil engineering and site construction including familiarity with the fundamentals of related engineering disciplines.

  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and apply technical specifications.

  • Experience in the design of structural elements.

  • Should have a developing judgment and ability to carry out work with minimum direction or supervision.

  • Experience with MS Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, AutoCAD and Adobe.

  • Working knowledge of Manitoba Hydro's Safety Management System and Environmental Management System.

  • Possess and maintain a valid Province of Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence.
