Your role

Are you a storyteller? Are you deeply connected to Indigenous communities? If so, CBC Syndicated Audio is looking for you to join our team in Winnipeg! An exceptional journalist and a self-starter, you must be able to analyze a broad range of issues and thrive in the fast-paced, high-pressure world of our multi-platform newsroom based with the Syndicated Audio Unit in Winnipeg.

The Syndicated Audio unit amplifies CBC’s journalism throughout the country by creating and distributing content that is informed by news of the day and shared with regional morning, afternoon and weekend radio programs across Canada. This includes interviews on the top news stories of the day; interactive and taped columnists covering a range of topics from health to entertainment; interviews on the top national and international news of the day; and producing contributions from regional offers. The unit also distributes audio and taped sound packs.

In this role, you will be identifying, gathering and creating content and stories that reflect the diversity and richness of Indigenous life, issues and opinions in this country. You will be enriching Indigenous storytelling and ensuring that the widest possible range of voices are heard. You will also be working with teams across Canada to ensure Indigenous issues within the regions are reflected in Syndicated Audio’s programming offers.
Education RequirementsUniversity degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of three years of recent, related experience preferred.
Essential SkillsWe are looking for a candidate with the following:
Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong, story ideas.
Strong proven connection and knowledge of Indigenous culture and communities.
Proven work ethic of being inclusive in diverse teams.
Advanced knowledge of digital news including familiarity with social media platforms and industry trends.
Experience vetting, editing, fact-checking and packaging current affairs and digital news content.
Willingness to learn and tackle new tasks across all CBC platforms.
Sound news judgment and ability to work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure.
Ability to choose relevant, audience focused stories, which reflect issues being discussed by the general public.
Demonstrated ability to research and gather information from a variety of sources.
Strong visual storytelling with an emphasis on photo journalism.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; a standout colleague.
Ability to generate original, enterprise journalism.
High energy and enthusiasm towards journalism.
Exceptional writing skills for digital and radio platforms.
Advanced skills in content management systems and social media platforms.
Must possess a valid driver’s licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company, other classes considered an asset.
Ability to work a variety of shifts, which may include from time to time early starts, late finishes and weekend work.
