Purpose

The Senior Solutions Developer is responsible for providing the expertise to streamline existing investment information into customized data views, by performing end-to-end system analysis, design, programming, documentation and implementation of in-house and third-party investment solutions used by our investment teams.

Working as a partner with Scotiabank technology teams, as well as the fixed income and broader 1832 Asset Management team, the incumbent will be responsible for working within a specific framework of technology and investment management standards, policies and procedures, while collaborating with internal partners to ensure successful execution of mandates.

Accountabilities

• Management of a front-office investment data and reporting solution
• Maintain, support, and enhance existing applications using C#, PowerShell, MS SQL and VBA
• Creation of unique reporting solutions specific to end user specifications using (Power BI, Tableau, Excel, etc.)
• Facilitation of and participation in meetings regarding end user requirements and design throughout the development phase of the project
• Develop ETL process using MS SQL Server to ingest, transform, cleanse and load investment data (e.g. prices, positions, analytics, etc.)
• Identify potential issues within ETL pipelines, notify end-users and propose adequate solutions
• Perform logical and physical data modeling to develop highly optimized data infrastructure and assure that data quality, security, and compliance requirements are met
• Automate processes to create specific datasets
• PowerShell scripting for application and environment maintenance
• Develop and maintain database stored procedures, functions and triggers in MS SQL Server
• Daily administration of investment database to ensure that accurate, complete and timely reporting is available (eg 7:00 – 8:00 am) to portfolio managers and the investment teams
• Manage the process of loading and validating data required (e.g. prices, positions, analytics, etc.) in the daily reporting provided to investment teams
• Evaluate existing and new applications and technologies to ensure they align with enterprise strategy and that they meet user requirements
• Optimize database code to enhance performance
• Ensure that all documentation meets application system and technical requirements

Education / Experience

The successful candidate must have the following:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent, with course work in finance or business administration;
• Minimum 4-7 years related work experience demonstrating progressive responsible work in applications programming and system analysis
• Must have experience in the investment/mutual fund industry, with knowledge of fixed income products and a strong understanding of derivative products
• Proficiency in Powershell, batch scripts, C# .NET, VBA, SSIS and MS SQL Server is required
• Knowledge of source control techniques and use of GIT. Experience with TFS would be an asset
• Knowledgeable with SQL Server database management and administration and SQL Server query development;
• Experience with Bloomberg, Eagle or Charles River is a strong asset.
• Experience with Cloud technology (Azure preferred) is an asset
