About the Opportunity

Our Calgary office is currently looking for a capable and enthusiastic Engineer-in-Training to join the existing team of professionals providing quality service to our land development, municipal and Indigenous clients across Alberta.

In this role, you will benefit from the support of industry professionals while working on exciting and challenging projects that make a visible difference in the communities that we serve. Assisting our teams in the planning, design, and consultation on several projects, you will be given as much responsibility and freedom as you demonstrate you are able to handle – what you put in, is what you will get out of this opportunity. More specifically, you can anticipate being involved in the following duties, to name a few:

• Honing your civil engineering knowledge and skills;
• Increasing your understanding of industry best practices in a practical, real-world setting of Southern Alberta;
• Employing cutting-edge technologies and programs to carry out design and modeling assignments;
• Providing on-site inspections and contract administration for the construction of Urban Systems’ designs. Ensuring inspections are meeting design and governing body specifications;
• Preparation of Schedule of Quantities and Measurement and Payment Clauses for construction estimates and contract documents;
• Attending project meetings, liaising with clients/contractors/internal team members whilst listening, communicating, and developing consulting and project documentation skills;
• Completing design calculations for civil infrastructure and preparing technical reports, including Stormwater, Sanitary Sewer and Water Infrastructure; and
• Supporting the project management design and construction of projects.
ExperienceAbout You

Our preferred candidate has a degree in Civil Engineering, less than 2 years of experience and possesses the following skills, strengths, and interests:

• You are suited to the consulting environment given your entrepreneurial spirit and instincts for:
o Having an ability to listen to others and ask clarifying questions;
o Collaborating with people of varying backgrounds and perspectives;
o Providing practical solutions to problems; and
o Working hard to deliver value to our clients.
• You have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• You are able to work independently, are a self-starter, but also a strong team player;
• You are organized, able to prioritize effectively, and have a strong work ethic;
• You are ambitious, don’t mind getting your hands dirty, and believe no job is too small;
• You have a valid driver’s license; and
• You have a keen interest and ideally work experience, in a wide range of civil infrastructure construction and design projects.
