Background
Focus Forward for Indigenous Youth is a young and ambitious registered (national) charity. We are working to address education and employment gaps facing Indigenous youth by providing experiential learning opportunities to cultivate career and life skills through working on community projects. Project specifics are strategically selected by community partners, ensuring that each project responds to local community needs and involves Indigenous youth pre and post project in a culturally appropriate way to create new spaces that are economically beneficial, sustainable and culturally relevant.

Having successfully completed two pilot programs, our team is now launching our programs on a national scale.

Role Summary
By incorporating the pillars of empowerment, collaboration, empathy, innovation, and sustainability this role will take the lead on challenging and meaningful work to operationalize the Focus Forward’s vision. This role will help set the foundation and take ownership as the organization works to bring opportunities to Indigenous youth so they may create positive impact for generations.

The National Program Manager will be responsible for building relationships with our community partners to develop, plan, and execute multiple regional projects to create a positive impact for youth and their communities. This includes working collaboratively with Indigenous communities and Focus Forward volunteers across Canada, to empower youth through locally developed experiential educational programming.

This role is a managing relationship to the another new role, the National Youth Support Manager. Both are in accordance with a new Federal Government grant and are under the administrative direction of the Focus Forward Board.

The Focus Forward Board is inclusive of diverse voices, insights, backgrounds and experiences to bring together a variety of expertise. We strive to be representative of Canadian society and uphold the value of belonging. We are a group of young professionals working to create positive impact in Indigenous communities.

The role is remote and will require travel among the Canadian communities Focus Forward serves.

Additional SkillsIn this role, you will:
• Manage needs assessments with Indigenous communities to identify local service providers and build relationships with community partners, such as local and regional education authorities, Chief and Council, Tribal Councils, and local economic development organizations to identify and implement, economic goals and future skilled trades market needs of community partners into Focus Forward programming
• Coordinate and lead regular community stakeholder engagements for projects based on project scope and collaborate with design partners to develop tailored conceptual projects in accordance with community needs
• Engage corporate sponsors, researching granting opportunities and writing and submitting grant applications to secure necessary resources to fund capital expenses
• Work with the National Youth Support Manager to review youth support and curriculum guides relevant to educational, community and future skilled-trades needs to ensure youth participants have the necessary culturally-relevant supports
• Research outreach, promotion and partnership opportunities with community organizations working with Indigenous youth
• Work with the Focus Forward Board, community and employment partners to design, develop, action and evaluate programs and meet reporting requirements
• Work with the Board and National Youth Support Manager to hire part-time training staff (regional coordinators) to help with the delivery of youth training and programming
