An Exciting Island Health Leadership Opportunity: Director, Indigenous Health, Central & North Island

As the Director, Indigenous Health, Central & North Island, you will provide leadership and strategic direction for the programs and services to improve the health status of Indigenous People.

Reporting to the Vice President, Indigenous Health & Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and working in partnership with the South Island Director, Indigenous Health and the Medical Director for Indigenous Health, you will be responsible for the overall operational management of programs and services for Rural Health and Indigenous Health serving Indigenous Peoples of Nuu-chah-Nulth, Kwakwaka'wakw and Coast Salish cultural families as well as urban Indigenous, Métis and Inuit Peoples on these homelands, also known as the Central and North Island regions of Vancouver Island.

Your leadership in this role will include:
• Supporting and actively promoting culturally safe patient centred care;
• Identifying, implementing and evaluating patient care safety initiatives;
• Leading a diverse team through a strength based approach with the intent to empower and promote resilience;
• Achieving outcomes identified in the Island Health Strategic Plan and by other agreements including the Tripartite Agreement, the Partnership Accord Steering Committee, Memorandums, Letters of Understanding and other guiding documents and groups;
• Collaborating with the First Nations Health Authority; Metis & urban Indigenous communities and stakeholders to ensure that Island Health is meeting the health needs of the people we serve; and
• Establishing the operational framework and infrastructure for program delivery and planning and manage all physical, human and financial resources, anticipating future changes that will affect service delivery.

Qualifications:
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to
• A Master's degree in a health related field or Business Administration (MBA);
• Seven years’ recent related experience including experience in the area of Indigenous health and wellness programming and service delivery and working with Indigenous leadership, health professional and communities; and
• Strong relational practice skills and experience working in diverse partnerships with Indigenous Peoples.

You would be a great fit for this role if you have a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of trauma informed practices, and the ongoing impacts of systemic racism, colonialism and genocide on Indigenous Peoples.
