| Faculty Position in Assistive & Rehabilitation Robotics at the University of Waterloo The Department of Systems Design Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Waterloo invites applications from highly qualified individuals for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Assistive & Rehabilitation Robotics with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2022. In the case of an exceptional candidate, an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor will be considered. The successful candidate must have a PhD in Engineering, or an equivalent discipline, in a robotics topic and demonstrable experience, and preferably postdoctoral training and research experience after PhD. Applicants should have demonstrated research strength in Assistive and Rehabilitation Robotics with a focus on lower limb and whole body movement. Areas of interest include but are not limited to the design and development of exoskeletons, exosuits or other assistive devices, soft robotics, gait training robots, physical therapy robots, actuators for assistive / rehabilitation robots, human-robot interfaces, and functional electrical stimulation. Preferred candidates will have a demonstrated ability to collaborate and work with multi-disciplinary team members, particularly those in the healthcare community. The applicant must be committed to establishing an interdisciplinary internationally recognized research program. Applicants must have excellent communication skills and a dedication to both teaching and research. Duties will also include teaching in the Biomedical Engineering and Systems Design Engineering programs covering core courses as well as electives. They also include advising graduate and undergraduate students as well as administrative services at the university as well as the international research community. The candidate is expected to collaborate with other faculty in Biomedical Engineering, Robotics and AI, in particular the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Human-Centred Robotics and Machine Intelligence, and other colleagues within the University, and establish strong external research collaborations. The salary range for this position at the rank of Assistant Professor is $110,000 to $164,000 CAD. Applications will be accepted until November 1, 2021. The successful applicant is expected to have an engineering license for practice in Canada or to apply for a Canadian engineering license within the first year of joining the university and must be registered as a Professional Engineer within 5 years from the start of their appointment. Systems Design Engineering (SYDE) with more than 1,000 students and 42 dedicated faculty is uniquely positioned to lead the interdisciplinary Biomedical Engineering program, Waterloo’s most competitive and in-demand major.
