We are seeking an Environmental Engineering Technician to join our Hydrometric Section in Thompson, Manitoba.

Under the direction of the Hydrometric Surveys Supervisor, you will be part of a team of professionals conducting water quantity and water quality monitoring that support our ongoing hydraulic licencing, operations and large construction projects requirements and commitments. This work is conducted year round.

Responsibilities:
Carrying out long term physical water quality monitoring and reporting activities including determining suspended sediments, conductivity, bed load transport, surface and subsurface erosion and sedimentation rates that support Manitoba Hydro’s various construction and environmental monitoring and protection programs.
Implementing long term water quantity (hydrometric) and meteorological monitoring and reporting activities that support operational and licencing requirements, hydro‐technical studies and environmental monitoring programs.
Maintaining a network of real time electronic Environmental Data Acquisition platforms and their associated sensors, including programming loggers and sensors, establishing real‐time telemetry, data management and field calibration measurements.
Performing hydro‐acoustic surveys for determining water velocities, discharge and bathymetry including erosion and sedimentation measurements as well as monitoring and documenting ice formations at key locations.
Completing GPS and traditional leveling surveys for determining vertical and horizontal references.

Qualifications:
You will have a minimum two year diploma in Natural Resource Management, Geomatics or Civil Engineering Technology from an institute of recognized standing plus one year of directly related experience. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position.
You will have a thorough knowledge of standards and methods relating to hydrometric monitoring and associated electronic data acquisition systems.
You will be a team player, possess effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and hold a valid Province of Manitoba Driver’s Licence.
