Tenure-Stream Faculty Position – Department of Architectural Science
Assistant Professor, Architectural Design and Theory

Candidates are invited to submit applications for a full time tenure stream position in architectural design and theory to the Department of Architectural Science in the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science at Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada. This position will be at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 1, 2019, subject to final budgetary approval.

Ryerson’s Department of Architectural Science is the only school in Canada with a unique interdisciplinary model that integrates across three disciplines: Architecture, Building Science and Project Management. Working together across disciplines, we merge architectural theory with contemporary and emergent design ideas and technologies with a commitment to the social, cultural and aesthetic impact of architecture.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in architectural design and contemporary architectural theory, and strong expertise in one or more of the following areas: urban design, the tectonic nature of buildings, and/or digital design. The successful applicant will be required to teach undergraduate and/or graduate design studio, lecture and/or seminar courses; supervise graduate thesis students; to undertake scholarly, research, and/or creative activities; and to engage in service to the Department, the University and the community.

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a professional degree in architecture (M.Arch or equivalent) OR an undergraduate professional degree in architecture with an additional degree at the graduate level. An advanced degree beyond these minimum requirements will be preferred.

Experience in architectural practise is required, and professional licensure in the candidate’s home jurisdiction is preferred.

Selection Criteria
Demonstrated record of strong scholarly, research and/or creative (SRC) activities in architectural theory and/or design (e.g. evidence of an emerging scholarly record, award winning published work, ability to establish and maintain an independent, externally funded SRC program).

Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience required to support high-quality teaching, curricular development, and student training in architecture at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including in a comprehensive design studio setting.

Experience in architectural practice consistent with the requirements for architectural licensure (licensure preferred).

Demonstrated experience, skill and/or capacity for collegial service, working collaboratively in an academic, professional or community setting and
engagement with and application of the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.

The Department of Architectural Science in the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science features a diverse, multidisciplinary faculty and student body dedicated to the pursuit of integrated and sustainable approaches to the design and development of the built environment. The Department capitalizes on its location to offer its diverse student body a unique and unparalleled educational experience, encompassing technology and design through theory and its application.

The Department offers a professional program in architecture accredited by the CACB (Bachelor of Architectural Science and Master of Architecture). The Department also offers a graduate program in building science (M.B.Sc. and M.A.Sc.). Other related graduate programs are currently in development.
