PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

 

As the Senior Financial Internal Auditor you will support the department in ensuring that the internal audit function adds value to the business by assessing and providing reasonable assurance that risk management and internal control systems are functioning as intended. By completing both ongoing and project based audit work, you report on risk management issues, internal controls, material audit findings and activities to Executive Management and the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors .The Senior Financial Internal Auditor is responsible for conducting independent, objective audits in accordance with Institute of Internal Auditors Standards, and ensuring effective communication of results and recommendations to Management.  Managing multiple projects and priorities, you will work with the broader Internal Audit team in designing and executing procedures on operational, financial or integrated audits. This position is an excellent opportunity to learn about many aspects of the business.

 

You will work in a team environment, reviewing and reporting on the interim and annual financial statements and related disclosure documents as required by the Audit Committee.  The role works on a portfolio of financial audit projects and governance activities performed at the request of the Board and management.  This position is an excellent opportunity to learn about many aspects of the business.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  • Execute audit projects, identify root cause for exceptions and develop clear recommendations for remediation
  • Identify and design control and process improvements
  • Research and provides summaries on complex accounting and significant transactions
  • Communicate results through effective presentation, negotiation and report writing skills
  • Support an effective follow-up program that ensures management implements appropriate and timely corrective action on risk exposures
  • Maintain objectivity and independence while fostering positive and professional relationships with Management
  • Maintain skills and knowledge through education, training, internal and external partners colleagues and information sources
  • Develop and apply knowledge of the railroad and industry/CP specific processes and technologies.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Possess a University degree in Business, accounting or finance in addition to a professional designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA, CIA, and/or CFE); equivalent combination of education and work experience would also be considered
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of internal controls assessment, documentation, and testing of required standards is required
  • Experience in data analytics and visualization tools is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate at appropriate levels for different audiences
  • Ability to function with considerable latitude in dealing with significant and complex issues, often where little or no precedent exists
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively cross functionally
  • Knowledge of US GAAP desirable
  • Experience in SAP would be an asset.
