PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The Supervisor Track Evaluation operates the LGIV, (Light Geometry Inspection Vehicle).  Also provides relief for staff on over-the-road track evaluation / geometry car (TEC) tests over the entire Canadian Pacific Railway network to ensure that all Transport Canada, FRA and company annual testing requirements are met.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Responsible for daily contact with the Local Roadmaster and/or Director Track & Structures regarding the TEC schedule and ways to uphold the TEC on schedule;
• Provides relief for staff operating Track Geometry consists in over-the-road testing and staff working on shop maintenance during scheduled maintenance periods;
• Provides Project and Budget technical support to the Manager. Monitors all charges and expenses related to the TEC operation;
• Performs periodic quality inspection reviews of the TEC output measures to ensure the quality and reliability of the data;
• Develops detailed weekly test schedules, coordinating with the Operations Centre (OC)  to minimize operational conflicts; 
• Monitors and controls testing through the year to ensure quality information is generated to guide the track maintenance efforts and assist in setting priorities for the Track Maintenance Planning group;
• Required to be on call on a regular basis outside of normal business hours and workdays;
• Monitors trends in repeat track geometry defects, follows up with reports to the Regions to ensure defects are repaired;
• Mentors the development of subordinates / co-workers to take on greater levels of responsibilities, appraises the work performance of subordinate positions and prepares recommendation of appropriate actions;
• Arranges for the production and distribution of Geometry reports;
• Provides input to proposed new technologies pertaining to track geometry, unattended geometry, gauge restraint measurement systems, VTI systems, vision technologies, etc.        

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Prior Track Maintenance Experience such as Supervisor Track Inspection, Extra Gang Forman, or Post-secondary education in electronics / engineering.
• 5 years of railway experience in Engineering Services;
• Understanding of network operations;
• Must have Canadian passport with ability to travel cross border to U.S;
• Must have valid Class 5 driver’s license;
• Instrumentation and testing;
• Information Technology;
• Calmness under fire;
• Ability to persuade for the overall betterment of the railway in situations where individual objectives may conflict;
• Good communicator across various functions;
• Co-ordinating/ influencing skills.
