 PURPOSE OF POSITION:

 

As the Data Architect, the successful candidate will share significant accountability with the Enterprise Architecture Team to ensure the success of data management and architecture practice and roadmap at CP. The Data Architect will be providing data architecture services (data modeling, data mapping, designing data flows and transformations, structured and unstructured data management, etc.) to project delivery teams and making sure data architecture meets all business requirements and is aligned with other architecture domains.

 

You will be working with highly skilled enterprise architecture team, project managers, BI/Analytics and delivery teams in road mapping and blueprinting sessions; working collaboratively with other members of the IS team, process owners and subject matter experts; facilitating analysis and design sessions and delivering innovative data-centric solutions to complex and ambitious problems.

 

This position reports to the Senior Director, Enterprise Architecture and will have primary responsibilities for data architecture to enable and support IS initiatives.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  • Create and maintain a data specific architecture including relevant technologies, standards, information usage, and patterns with evolutionary path/roadmap to the desired future state architecture that drives use of data in decision-making and business process automation.
  • Lead the assessment, design and development of the overall data architecture and make sure all data architecture components (data model, mapping, data flows, transformations, interfaces) are well integrated and aligned with the overall solution architecture to meet business requirements.
  • Develop proposals for implementation and design of scalable data architecture including operational data, data warehousing, data lakes and big data enabling AI solutions.
  • Design logical and physical data models for performance, scalability and availability to enable growing data demands and traffic from partners and clients.
  • Work with delivery teams, business stakeholders, and Enterprise Architecture team to determine the best approach to link business strategy, objectives and constraints into viable, robust and cost-effective implementation plan and agile data solutions that meet current requirements and can evolve to support future requirements without costly rework and disruptions.
  • Understand solution implications for assigned projects and recommend appropriate data solutions or exceptions that balance business risk with enterprise architecture requirements.
  • Create and maintain data models and repositories and deliver required project architecture artifacts in compliance with the solution architecture process and methodology.
  • Provide data architecture guidance and directions to delivery teams as needed to ensure alignment between business goals and the overall project solution architecture as well as alignment with IS Roadmap and EA Standards and best practices.
  • Conduct regular data architecture project reviews and monitor progress towards a defined and approved solution architecture, identify and address necessary changes, gaps and/or opportunities in the desired target architecture causing solution delivery issues.
  • Research, promote, and develop data architecture best practices, guidelines, procedures and repeatable and scalable frameworks.
  • Embraces continues improvements with data architecture and management practice.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

 

 

  • Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering or related field and/or appropriate experience
  • 5-15+ years of progressive experience in data architecture or related roles.
  • Practical and broad knowledge in designing data solutions across ERP/SAP systems, COTS systems, and custom build systems.
  • Extensive experience in one or more of data architecture domains: information architecture, data modeling and mapping, data interfaces, data transformations, information life cycle management, business intelligence/analytics, data warehousing, ETL, master data management, metadata management, data quality, data governance, data science.
  • Experience in Corporate performance management and metrics area.
  • Experience is structured and unstructured data repositories with major data technologies and frameworks (SAP HANA, MS SQL Server, Oracle, open-source products, Open Text, etc.).
  • Experience with big data and data lakes architecture with major big data technologies and frameworks (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, SQL, NoSQL, etc.).
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining complex data models for operational and analytical applications, both logical and physical.
  • Interest in data science and advanced analytics (machine learning, operations research, etc.).
  • Fundamental transportation and/or supply chain management business knowledge (concepts, processes, principles, frameworks, metrics, applications, data models).
  • Experience and/or formal training in architectural design and common industry frameworks (SAP certifications, TOGAF, DODAF, EACOE, ZIF, etc.).
  • Strategically focused and tactically effective leader and liaison between IS deliver and operations. ability to negotiate, influence, earn trust, facilitate, and interact with business and various IS teams.
  • Strong analytical, design, problem solving and decision-making skills, inquisitiveness and the desire to understand “why”, “what” and “how”, contextualization skills and ability to "connect the dots", desire to examine things and dive into details without losing a big picture.
  • Innovator and results driven change enabler with emerging focus on delivering technology enabled business value (reducing operating ratio) and exceeding business expectations
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

Management Conductor Program:
