PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

 

To manage, plan, organize and optimize the accessibility and efficient operation of the train control systems in use in the Operations Centers, and related field operations; to identify, evaluate and design potential improvements to these systems through the use of technology; to guide the development and implementation of train control applications; and to deliver effective and efficient training to CP’s Canadian and American personnel to enable them to meet or exceed regulatory standards and CP policy.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  • Helps determine and validate the scope, objectives and functions of train control applications including all office dispatch systems and complementary systems used in the fields
  • Coordinates and participates in the formulation of detailed specifications for new train control applications, ensuring all necessary safety, technical and user requirements are met
  • Prepares and executes detailed test plans to ensure the integrity and safety of train control applications
  • Triages and recreates issues found in testing or implementation of train control systems
  • Participates in the design, development and implementation of train control systems, ensuring that required safety and technical specifications are adhered to
  • Creates and maintains documentation specific to job functions
  • Communicate and share information with coworkers and customers
  • Maintains a current knowledge of the technology and methods of operational control employed in the transportation industry and keeps abreast of the latest developments in analytical and planning techniques
  • Maintain subject matter databases in a current and timely manner
  • Deliver training programs as required, ensuring effectiveness of content and selected training strategies 

 

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Computer Science is desirable
  • 2 years’ experience with CP’s train control systems, especially as an RTC, Dispatcher, in train operations and/or through development of train control systems, is preferred
  • Experience with JIRA and HP’s ALM is desirable

  • Must be able to travel within Canada and the United States
  • This position requires on call support on a rotating basis

Management Conductor Program:
