"Reporting to the Manager, Technology Access Centre for Aerospace and Manufacturing (TACAM), Red River College (RRC), the Applied Research Professional will establish, support, enhance and grow applied research and technology development activities at the College’s new Smart Factory. The incumbent will act as a catalyst to help the local community develop innovative advanced manufacturing processes, technologies, applications and knowledge base utilizing Smart Factory capabilities including robotics, automation, additive manufacturing, sensor technologies, data acquisition, systems control, industrial networking, high performance computing and internet of things (IoT). This individual will coordinate the activities of researchers, industry collaborators, faculty and students working on technology demonstration, applied research, knowledge creation and capstone projects. In addition, the incumbent will develop, initiate, secure funding for, contribute technical expertise in, and manage research activities; and will develop new strategic and client-supported applied research and technology development projects. The Applied Research Professional will support the mandate and metrics established with funding agencies and network with both research/business partners to strengthen applied research partnerships; maintain oversight of relevant applied research project activities and deliverables; and prepare appropriate applied research records and reports.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-Graduate degree in a field related to advanced manufacturing or computer / electronics / software / instrumentation engineering.
- Experience in the integration of electro-mechanical systems, robotics integration, big data analytics, networking of manufacturing systems or implementation of IoT solutions.
- Significant industrial experience working in aerospace or manufacturing sector
- Experience in performing and/or leading research and development activities
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Experience in an applied research and / or project management role
- Ability to undertake multiple tasks with limited supervision
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong networking skills
- Strong interpersonal skills

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in developing business / research proposals for grants from public and private sectors
- Experience in business development

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
