The opportunity

Reporting to the Regional Asset Reliability Manager within the Wildrose Region of Canada Gas Operations, the Environmental Specialist will be responsible for supporting daily operations and developing and managing environmental programs and projects to ensure compliance with all federal and provincial environmental regulations, company policies, standards and TC Energy procedures.  The Environmental Specialist will provide environmental and planning expertise to various stakeholders including regional staff, corporate stakeholders, regulators and industry peers.

 

What you’ll do

  • Support and educate regional employees on all environmental needs related to the safe and compliant operation of gas facilities
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (field operations, corporate and regulators) to identify and mitigate/manage environmental risks
  • Inspect facilities to ensure environmental compliance to company and regulatory standards and procedures
  • Participate in audits where required, analyze findings and implement corrective actions (Tier II, III, consolidated audits, contractor audits, internal projects, etc)
  • Provide Incident Command System (ICS) Environment Unit Leader (EUL) emergency response support in Wildrose Region and across Canada Gas Operations
  • Manage or support annual regional environmental programs as required: hazardous waste management, vegetation and noxious weed control, brushing, fugitive emissions, site water management, chemical inventories, asbestos assessment and management, etc
  • Mentoring, training and directing TC Energy personnel to ensure environmental compliance, and provide field-friendly environmental support for onsite Operations staff

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a University degree in Environmental or Geological Sciences or Engineering (or similar field of study)
  • Minimum 6 years of environmental/industry work experience is required, with 10 years of combined applicable academic training, certification and related work experience preferred

 
Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of gas pipeline operations is expected in this role
  • Experience working with provincial and federal environmental regulatory agencies
  • Relevant professional designation or certification desired
  • Gas sector experience would be considered an asset
  • ICS experience would be considered an asset
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Advanced analytical ability to gather and evaluate complex information obtained from a variety of sources
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills to resolve complex and ambiguous issues and present recommendations
  • A broad range of project management skills (planning, scheduling, budgeting, risk assessment and time management)
  • Excellent leadership skills to act as a role model, promoting a positive influence on the work of others through demonstration of technical expertise and effective interpersonal skills
