The opportunity

 

Reporting to the Eastern Engineering Manager, you'll be part of our multi-disciplinary team and have responsibility for the proposal, initiation, execution, and completion of capital projects for TC Energy's Canadian Energy Assets. Project performance will be measured on your ability to deliver projects on schedule, within budget and in compliance with TC Energy's project management procedures. You will be a key contributor to the management of capital project implementation to achieve reliable operation and continuous improvement of all plant equipment located at TC Energy's power plant and unregulated gas storage facilities.

 

In this position you will be an individual contributor and will work closely with other groups as well as leads from Engineering and Project Management, Operations, Commercial, Supply Chain, Compliance, Legal and other internal/external stakeholders to plan, organize and execute complex capital projects.  You will provide strong technical, project management, organizational, and communication skills to our team and will develop knowledge of the systems, processes and tools required to plan and execute outages.

 

What you’ll do

 

  • Lead the planning and execution of capital projects (e.g. plant modifications, upgrades and enhancements, and plant outages) under the supervision of senior staff
  • Develop and/or coordinate investment valuations, cost estimates, decision summaries, risk analyses and conceptual plans, and preliminary and detailed design work
  • Coordinate with operations and engineering to develop and execute project scope, budget, execution plan, schedule, resource requirements, permit applications, commissioning plan, pre-start safety review, documentation, drawing modifications, close-out of punch list items, and training where appropriate
  • Create project execution plans to encompass schedules, budgets, resource requirements, permits and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate and direct the work of external consultants and contractors
  • Provide leadership and influence in the continuous development of project management tools and processes
  • Provide project management services in support of TransCanada's asset management initiatives
  • Make independent decisions and communicate recommendations to management and other affected parties in a way that fosters consensus and facilitates efficient outcomes
  • Other relate duties, as required

 

Minimum qualifications
 

  • Must have completed of Bachelor’s Degree Program in Engineering, Applied Science or equivalent degree (as recognized by a Canadian Provincial Association of Professional Engineers, such as PEO)
  • Current registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) as an Engineer-in-Training
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant field experience in power generation facilities (i.e. installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance); not including co-op or internship work terms
  • All positions require background screening; some include criminal and/or credit checks in order to comply with regulations
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract for review
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office applications is required
  • You must be legally entitled to work in Canada by way of Canadian Citizenship, Permanent Residency or a valid work permit


Preferred qualifications
 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to provide and present timely and relevant feedback/reporting to various stakeholders; candidates may be asked to submit a technical writing sample
  • Innovative, self-motivated, professional, and able to work without direct supervision and contribute in a fast-paced, multi-discipline team environment
  • Proficient in reading and understanding mechanical discipline drawings including P&IDs, piping isometrics, general arrangements, mechanical system drawings
  • Ability to work independently to organize, plan, coordinate, and manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously including providing daily field support
  • Demonstrated familiarity with project management principles and practices; previous project management experience considered an asset
  • Understanding of tools and processes used to analyze and define equipment maintenance
  • Recognized certificate or diploma in Project Management is considered an asset
  • SAP experience is considered an asset
  • Ability to exercise leadership without formal authority and have demonstrated leadership skills for delegation, negotiation, influencing, and consensus building to coordinate work to meet objectives
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and problem-solving capability
  • Strong presentation, interpersonal, and written communication skills
  • Team player with the ability to collaborate and interact with other groups
  • Aptitude for development of leadership, management and decision-making skills
  • Flexible and adaptable to change


This position is not a part of the EIT Rotation Program. This role will be on a standard work schedule, with opportunities to travel to the field for site visits or term assignments to assist with operations or project issues. Consistent with our employment practices, this position is eligible for the EIT Relocation Package.

 

This position will require travel up to 50% across North America. As such, you must have unrestricted ability to travel within North America for durations of 30+ days at a time, and you must be able to provide and maintain applicable documentation to this affect.
