The opportunity

Our Public Affairs and Communications team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence in Calgary, Alberta to develop and implement stakeholder engagement plans for Alberta-based gas, liquids and energy projects following TC Energy's Manage External Project Stakeholders Project Development Standard (PDS) process.

 

We are seeking a Public Affairs Advisor who has knowledge and experience in the development and implementation of stakeholder engagement plans.

 

What you'll do

  • Develop, maintain and manage stakeholder engagement logs and ensure data integrity within StakeTracker, TC Energy's engagement tracking system
  • Prepare stakeholder engagement input to regulatory applications for projects
  • Collaborate with Project Management and other project contributors including Environment, Land, and Indigenous Relations representatives to ensure stakeholder risks are managed throughout project development
  • Ensure familiarity with current stakeholder engagement requirements for TC Energy's regulators in Alberta, including the Alberta Energy Regulator and the National Energy Board
  • Understand and uphold internal policies and processes such as TC Energy's Stakeholder Engagement Commitment Statement and the Manage External Project Stakeholders PDS process
  • Build and maintain relationships with communities and organizations of strategic interest to TC Energy
  • Identify, monitor, analyze and communicate emerging stakeholder issues and risks associated with projects in development
  • Collaborate with the Communications group to develop and maintain tactical stakeholder engagement tools including fact sheets, brochures, photos, website content, newsletters
  • Measure, evaluate and report on the value of the stakeholder engagement program and make recommendations for improvements
  • Lead the development and implementation of project community investment strategies in accordance with TC Energy' policies and procedures and Corporate Community Investment Program;
  • Participate in the Calgary-based emergency response support team.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • University Degree in Political Science, Public Relations or Communications or an equivalent level of education and training in community relations, negotiation, mediation or public involvement techniques
  • More than 4 years of Community Relations experience
  • A public relations professional with excellent verbal and written communication skills and the capability to manage information and data on multiple levels
  • Ability to think strategically, weigh issues and recommend effective solutions
  • Influencing and negotiating skills
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and business drivers associated with public affairs and stakeholder engagement goals;
  • Demonstrated skills in facilitation, diplomacy, conflict resolution, problem solving and public speaking
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills with a customer service focus.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Well-developed organizational and multi-tasking skills and the ability to be flexible and work well independently under pressure in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and circumstances
  • Proven team player with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships
  • Excellent mature judgment and capacity to work collaboratively with others in a team setting
  • International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) training
  • Media training and/or Crisis Communication training
  • Understanding of the pipeline and energy industries
  • Knowledge of principles of Corporate Social Responsibility.

 

Note:

  • This role will require travel to undertake stakeholder engagement programs in support of TC Energy's projects.
  • This role often requires work beyond regular work hours (Monday to Friday, 8AM to 5PM).
