The opportunity


Our Aurora Central Area team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence in Slave Lake or Athabasca to support the Aurora Central Area Manager.

 

We are seeking a Electrical Instrumentation Controls Technician who will apply their skills and aptitude to repair, install, troubleshoot, and perform planned maintenance and corrective tasks on assigned electrical, pneumatic and/or mechanical control systems, devices, and ancillary equipment. This position operates and maintains natural gas compression and auxiliary equipment, operates and maintains balance of plant equipment in a manner to meet operational needs in compliance with company and regulatory requirements. Will also maintain core operational task qualifications, and will be required to perform tasks from other disciplines.

 ***This position is overtime eligible and is part of an on-call rotation. The position will provide emergency support as required. Travel and overnight stays away from home base will be required. Away from home may include on sight Company residence.***

 

What you'll do

·Â Perform installation, testing, repair, and maintenance on compressor station equipment, and other facilities relevant to the pipeline system as required;
·Â Troubleshoot, test, & maintain shutdown devices, fire & gas systems, auxiliary systems, HVAC systems, relief and Over Pressure Protection devices, control valves, PLC's & control systems;
·Â Install & configure software in control systems;
·Â Support  pulldown compression units as required;
·Â Perform routine and major maintenance on gas turbine packages, gas compressor units, meter station asset equipment and associated auxiliary equipment, assist with pipeline asset maintenance;
·Â Perform emergency repairs to meet customer and client needs;
·Â Oversee the safe and efficient completion of projects;
·Â Active control of contractors;
·Â Ensure facilities and personnel comply with TransCanada's safety, health, environment, and risk standards;
·Â Procure resources and manage within budgets for the facilities;

·Â Provide support to our business partners as required;
·Â Other tasks as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications
·Â An electrician technician with a minimum of 5 years industry relevant experience;
·Â High School diploma/GED required, certified Technician/Technologist;

 

Preferred Qualifications
·Â Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills;
·Â Demonstrated effective written & verbal communication skills;;
·Â Familiarity with Allen Bradley PLC5 and RsLogix 5000;
·Â Competent using equipment applicable to the maintenance of control systems;
·Â Highly motivated with interpersonal skills to effectively work in a collaborative team environment that includes shared responsibilities,
·Â Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others, support team and company objectives, and a willingness to work in all areas required by the team;
·Â Current with technological advances in the compression field;
·Â Fully competent and current with all Health, Safety and Environment standards and training.

 

Additional role requirements
This position requires candidates to:
·Â Drive a motor vehicle. Following a conditional offer of employment, the company will check the motor vehicle records of any applicant when driving is an essential job function.
·Â Successfully complete a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol testing.
·Â Work an adjusted schedule - Part of on-call rotation and overnight stays away from home base will be required.
·Â Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home. Travel is expected to be up to 50 percent of your time.
