Our Primary Extraction Maintenance Engineering team provides frontline engineering support to help us meet the day-to-day business demands of ore preparation and froth separation assets in our Base Plant site. We are looking for someone who is eager to gain practical, hands-on experience troubleshooting equipment, develop a strong comprehension of equipment strategies, collaborate and foster relationships across multiple disciplines while upholding our commitment to safety and the environment. You will get to perform meaningful work, which will allow you to build a strong foundation for a successful engineering career.

 

You will use your expertise to:

  • Liaise between our Maintenance and Reliability Engineering departments, clearly communicating ongoing plant issues, ‘bad actors’, asset upgrade opportunities/necessities, potential safety improvements, procedural advances, and recurring problems
  • Provide concise engineering scopes of work to support planned and unplanned activities
  • Use a questioning attitude to investigate equipment failures, determine root cause, and drive significant corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence
  • Support/participate in turnaround/outage activities
  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives by collaborating with field trades, and help formulate and follow through on the improvement initiatives
  • Assist reliability engineering with equipment strategy improvements
  • Assist in updating work practices and procedures

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • EIT eligibility with APEGA
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups
  • The ability to anticipate potential problems and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions, and have a strong sense of accountability
  • A continuous improvement mindset and are able to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, process and hazards in the workplace
  • A zero-tolerance for shortcuts, and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it

Preference for:

  • Oil and gas background
  • Experience with CAD softward

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • This position is safety sensitive
