The scope of this role is wide, and there is a range of technical activities you can lead to help us optimize plant operations and identify improvement opportunities to help asset availability and utilization.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Evaluate opportunities for the improvement availability and utilization of steam, boiler feed water, flue gas desulphurization and off-plots assets
  • Offer process engineering expertise in identifying projects, alternative identification and concept selection
  • Provide process engineering input into the successful execution of capital projects
  • Ensure process designs minimize hazards, achieve the desired intent, minimize costs, and adhere to relevant internal and external industry standards
  • Facilitate effective communication, collaboration and transfer of information within a cross-functional team, broader projects team and across the company
  • Determine engineering scopes and test plans related to sustaining projects
  • Coach and mentor more junior team members
  • Help resolve operating plant issues

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Three or more years of process engineering experience in operating plants with preference to steam and power generation facilities
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering
  • The ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong non-authoritative leadership and planning skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Experience working in steam and power generation facilities
  • Experience in both a project design and operating environment
  • Proven proficiency with analytics, such as process plant data trending/data analysis tools and Microsoft Office programs(Word, Excel and Powerpoint) 
  • Demonstrable knowledge in preparing and effectively communicating engineering concepts in order to drive decisions to resolution
  • An understanding of complex processes and strong initiative to develop and implement creative process enhancements/scope minimization
  • A continuous improvement mindset and the ability to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, process and hazards in the workplace

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible individuals
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
