We’re looking for a collaborative engineer to join our Energy and Utilities team to support power system reliability, outage management, and operations. As an expert in your discipline, you will establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external groups, like Information Technology (IT), business leaders, system administrators, auditors, consultants, and vendors, in order to produce the best results.

 

You will use your expertise to:

  • Work with external organizations, including AESO, AUC, MSA, ATCO, WECC, and NERC
  • Track new standards and modifications to the Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS) and ISO rules
  • Build compliance documentation and provide support for internal and external audits
  • Ensure IT, Operations, and Maintenance reliability compliance processes are developed, implemented and followed
  • Implement training and testing programs to ensure our employees meet all applicable internal and external compliance requirements, which includes understanding relevant laws, regulations, policies, controls and policy violations
  • Storage audit documents and evidential  support in Suncor systems accurately
  • Monitor internal controls with respect to compliance of required standards
  • Ensure all field installation inspections align with applicable codes and standards
  • Review and approve electrical studies for regulatory compliance and reliable operations

We’d like to review your application if you have…

 

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Seven years of related experience in an industrial electrical field
  • Three years of experience in regulatory compliance
  • Experience in a utility operations environment, up to 260 kV
  • Experience in the power transmission and distribution industry. A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering in a relevant field such as Electrical, Automation, or Information Technology
  • Been registered, or are eligible to register, as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGGA)
  • Knowledge of the Alberta Interconnected Electrical System (AIES) operation as well as the deregulated power market
  • Proven understanding of AESO, NERC, MSA, and AUC rules, regulations, and standards

Preference for:

  • Proficiency with the ETAP and PSSE engineering software
  • Experience working with SAP’s PM (Project Management) module
  • Strong collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups
  • Proven non-authoritative leadership skills, mentoring skills, conflict management skills, time management skills, and problem solving skills

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • This position is security sensitive which requires you to clear a criminal history check
