Working closely with key stakeholders and senior leaders from across the Business Units and Functions, and in collaboration with enterprise Digital Strategic Advisory Business Partners, Enterprise Architecture, the Director of Digital Strategy, you will facilitate strategic discussions to co-ordinate the development of digital, business and process strategies. This position is accountable for supporting the development of capability roadmaps for Business Units and Functions that will drive Suncor’s Transformation. This is a valuable development role for future leaders to build relevant thinking skills, leadership capabilities and broaden exposure to the overall business and integration with our company.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Facilitate discussions with businesses partners to understand strategic goals, priorities and business requirements, and support enterprise architecture in the translation of business requirements into capabilities and initiatives
  • Understand corporate strategy, priorities and value drivers and operational strategy of different business units across the organization
  • Support the development of the Digital and E-Tech strategy to advance the transformation and/or continuous improvement of the function to meet budget and strategic goals
  • Assist in developing the Budget and the Long Range Plan (LRP), as well as supporting governance (scorecard, goals development, stewardship reporting, monitoring of progress against plan, etc.)
  • Monitor technology trends and understand the implications to Suncor’s Technology environment and strategy, and implications to Digital and E-Tech’s operating model; assess innovation opportunities to evaluate for applicability
  • Understand external industry market factors, opportunities and challenges and provide assessment of internal strength and weaknesses

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Eight years of similar experience with people leadership accountabilities, and combined experience in an IT, technical and business role
  • Undergraduate degree and relevant professional experience in the field of Business, Economics, Computer Science/IT or similar discipline
  • Advanced corporate strategy and financial management skills, you have a strong understanding of investment portfolio management, you can stress-test business case assumptions, and you can build complex financial modeling models
  • Strong influencing, persuasion and facilitation skills combined with excellent written and verbal communication
  • Conceptual thinking skills; you are convergent as well as divergent, and you focus efforts on significant value and strategic importance, uncovering fundamental insights which can reframe a decision or recommendation
  • Outstanding analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • An MBA or equivalent post graduate degree
  • Previous strategy and/or business transformation experience
  • Oil and Gas Industry experience

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
