You will be responsible for leading a multi-disciplined group of professional engineers who provide engineering support on complex issues in multiple specialized fields of engineering to ensure safe, efficient, reliable and regulatory compliant operations at 13 Suncor-owned finished product terminals across Canada.

 

You will use your expertise to:

  • Act as the domain engineering expert to develop terminal projects and major maintenance activities, including providing input into the budgeting process
  • Champion all aspects of the Management of Change (MOC) process across Distribution and ensure all technical changes are led through all phases of development, risk management, implementation and sustainment.
  • Assign and direct the completion of Terminals small capital project work by implementing authorization for expenditure (AFEs), managing design, procurement and construction of approved projects on time and within budget
  • Provide direction to plant engineers
  • Prioritize delivery of work from each plant engineer and ensure consistency while ensuring that interface activities are well planned and executed
  • Provide coaching, mentorship and technical guidance to team and ensure, enabling team members to be aligned and engaged in their cross functional teams
  • Manage resourcing of plant engineering team to support completion of engineering activities across the terminal network including hiring, onboarding, training for new employees and contractors.
  • Collaborate and build strong positive relationships with various external engineering providers
  • Assign and outline technical work to engineering providers as well as reviewing for technical accuracy
  • Act as Suncor’s representative with governmental agencies on related technical matters as required and supports emergency response activities

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 10 years' working experience in an oil and gas refinery or terminal operating environment
  • Been registered or are immediately eligible for registration with the association of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) as a Professional Engineer or with an equivalent Provincial body
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent education)
  • In-depth knowledge of API, ASME, and CCME standards
  • An adaptive work style with an ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment with multiple priorities, challenging demands, and strict deadlines

Preference for:

  • Deep understanding and experience in multi-disciplined environments (i.e. process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, civil)
  • A high level of motivation and you are a self-starter with excellent organizational, planning, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong trouble-shooting and analytical skills with a continuous improvement mindset
  • The ability to supervise direct reports, manage performance and oversee functional support resources to ensure accountabilities are met
  • The initiative to constantly ask what could go wrong and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential problems
  • A highly motivated, proactive professional with outstanding communication skills

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of either our Downstream head office in Mississauga, Montreal Terminal, Edmonton Terminal or Burrard Terminal with a mixture of office, field work and frequent travel cross Canada
  • Flexibility is needed to work extended hours during peak turnarounds and peak project periods as well as climbing tanks on occasion
