We will help you to develop your professional skills and establish relationships with internal partners. In this position, you will report to the closure technology manager and you will help maintain the dozens of ongoing research projects and collaborate with the university researchers and consultants working on our mine and in situ project site.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Research projects include wetland, forest and lake design and monitoring; treatment wetland engineering; caribou conservation; wildlife risk assessment; and improving carbon sequestration in reclamation planning; water treatment; and reconciliation-focused efforts in landscape repair and conservation
  • Provide support to projects; organizing meetings and workshops with partners and Aboriginals
  • Participate and attend team meetings, write and/or review research reports and attend workshops as required
  • Develop a deep understanding of data analysis and provide support in developing presentations

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Current enrollment in a formal co-op or internship program in 3rd or 4th year Environmental Science at an accredited post-secondary institution, and returning to full-time studies after the work term

  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Preference for:

  • Prior field work and samples collection (water, soils, biological)
  • Flexibility in handling multiple tasks and priorities with a strong attention to detail
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with SAP
  • We value a self-starter with the ability to effectively work with minimal supervision to independently prioritize and handle workload; in particular, exercising independent discernment in planning, organizing, implementing and completing projects and initiatives

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will be based in Calgary, Edmonton, Fort McMurray or Fort Hills
  • This is an 8 – 12 month work term, from September 2019 – August 2020
  • Some of these positions may have been identified as safety sensitive
  • Your work schedule will be determined based on the position requirements
