We are looking for a geotechnical engineer who is experienced in operationalizing geotechnical designs and solutions to join our Geo Services Engineering team. We believe in hiring great people to build a world-class team and in this role we will build on your experiences and knowledge to help guide technical support, governance and advise management on geotechnical risks. In this exciting opportunity, you will implement and monitor our tailings facility and dam safety systems governance and you will provide senior-level review of geotechnical work and practices.

You will use your expertise to:

• Commit and dedicate yourself to working on projects for design, construction, operations, performance and closure
• Take pride in establishing constructive relationships within Suncor and our external partners
• Review geotechnical documentation for technical consistency and completeness
• Present projects to independent review boards for risk identification
• Mentor, lead and develop our engineers to grow technically and professionally
• Apply critical thinking and explore assumptions, conclusions and make constructive recommendations
• Contribute to a team environment while at times working independently

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

• 20 years of relevant engineering experience in large civil earthworks projects, which include design, construction and operations
• Experience in the oil sands or mining environment
• Engineering degree in Civil, Geological, or Mining
• Current registration or eligible to register immediately as a Professional Engineer with APEGA
• A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Preference for:

• Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering
• Knowledge of geology and hydrogeology

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

• You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
• Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
• Travel to site as necessary
