The opportunity

TC Energy’s Canadian Gas Projects – Engineering department is seeking a mechanical engineer to join the team, reporting to the Manager of Canada Gas Projects Measurement Engineering. The Canada Gas Projects Measurement Engineering team is responsible for the engineering oversight of gas measurement projects within the Canada Gas capital program, making our team members an integral part of successful project execution.

 

In this role, your responsibilities during measurement project execution will encompass technical understanding and review of third-party engineering work, along with issue management and resolution throughout the lifecycle of a project. Your role will be technical in nature but demands excellent communication and problem-solving skills to effectively manage the alignment between our third-parties and stakeholders across the Company.  

 

What you’ll do

  • Support development projects through technical scoping and providing competitive solutions to customers
  • Make independent design decisions that are aligned to TC Energy’s requirements and stakeholders’ needs (Projects, Field Operations, Gas Quality, etc.)
  • Design oversight of the Company’s third-party engineering service providers, ensuring compliance to company specification and standards
  • Provide interpretation of specifications and standards to support detailed design and construction
  • Support project procurement process
  • Provide technical support for construction
  • Provide accurate and timely engineering input to regulatory applications and prepare and submit Leave to Open (LTO) packages
  • Active engagement in the continuous improvement process (e.g. CDL. Lessons Learned, OFIs, etc.)
  • Follow the Company’s Practice of Engineering
  • Occasional travel may be required based upon business needs

 
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) registered, or eligible to register, with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • 4 years of applicable experience is required, 5 is preferred

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with the design and/or construction of gas meter station facilities
  • Knowledge of applicable codes (e.g. CSA Z662, ASME B31.3), standards and specifications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively manage any issues throughout projects
  • Proficient in reading and understanding mechanical discipline drawings including piping and instrumentation diagram (P&IDs), piping isometrics and general arrangements
  • Strong understanding of the engineering design process, including cross-discipline knowledge
  • Organized and ability to balance multiple projects and priorities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to influence and facilitate alignment without authority
  • Sound judgement and decision-making abilities
