Looking for an opportunity to get a broad view of our world-class oil sands business and capital management? As an expert in your field, you will provide support and analysis while working with area stakeholders to ensure alignment, manage risks and coordinator efforts across the ~$3B oil sands capital project portfolio.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Support the stand-up and establishment of the Oil Sands Portfolio Management Committee
  • Prepare portfolio materials and content for the committee and area cross-functional teams (ACFTs)
  • Build understanding within the development and execution organizations around proven portfolio risks and priorities, support communications with the ACFTs around portfolio challenges
  • Work with business area development leads to ensure consistent application of portfolio management across the ACFTs
  • Work with development to ensure consistent application of portfolio data including: reason for investment, risk rank, and economics
  • Plan and support key improvement initiatives aimed at improving the consistency and clarity of the oil sands capital portfolio
  • Analyze the overall portfolio to understand trends, risks and actions required to minimize portfolio risk
  • Support other planning and analysis accountabilities including budget and business planning, portfolio check, Gensight support and maintenance and regular stewardship activities
  • Develop a detailed understanding of key high risk portfolios
  • Develop presentations to inform senior leaders of portfolio health and risks

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Five years of relevant professional experience and knowledge in the oil sands business
  • An understanding of and/or previous experience working with cross-functional teams
  • A business or technical degree or diploma
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, written and verbal communication skills, and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Visio, PowerPoint) with very strong excel skills
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing
  • The ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, drive positive outcomes out of conflicting opinions and strong decision making
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to develop materials for senior leaders
  • The ability to influence others and generate results in areas where you are not directly accountable

Preference for:

  • Experience and understanding of project risks, the asset development and execution model (ADEM) process and the development/execution functions

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office (Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W) or in Fort McMurray (our Base Plant facility)
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray or Calgary, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible individuals
