Are you an expert at diagnosing and troubleshooting equipment? In this role, you will work closely with Maintenance and Operations to develop and audit mining fleet maintenance and reliability programs with a focus on equipment performance, drive technical management and provide field technical support for our Fort Hills Mining Fleets.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Optimize equipment asset strategies and maintenance requirements/expectations
  • Support maintenance engineers in the development of fleet analytics and remote health monitoring systems
  • Develop and implement operator driven reliability (ODR) and maintain driven reliability (MDR) programs and work with the asset teams to take advantage of improvement and optimization opportunities in mine production equipment
  • Ensure all maintenance and reliability programs are in compliance with the Suncor Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) management systems
  • Support maintenance engineering incident investigations by ensuring results are timely, accurate, that root causes are understood and all actions identified, completed and communicated to the appropriate teams
  • Act as the technical interface between Fort Hills and equipment manufacturers (OEM’s) to resolve technical issues and evaluate new products to improve mining assets safety, reliability and profitability
  • Use lessons learned from failure analysis results to identify improvement opportunities which includes researching and implementing technical improvements on mining assets through the management of change (MOC) process to improve availability, safety, functionality and/or reliability
  • Support the expertise in reliability engineering techniques (reliability centered maintenance, failure mode effects analysis) and apply as required
  • Ensure condition monitoring programs are implemented based on the equipment strategy and support data analytics in order to minimize equipment failure and downtime

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Five years of relevant experience working in a maintenance environment on mining equipment or similar industrial environment (Komatsu Haul Trucks 930E’s or 980E’s, P&H 4100’s, Hitachi EX8000, all CAT equipment model experience)
  • An appropriate trade (electrical, heavy equipment, welding etc.) certificate or post-secondary degree in engineering or equivalent education
  • A proven mechanical aptitude or relevant experience on mobile mining assets
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Preference for:

  • Supervisory or leadership experience
  • Solid interpersonal skills and strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and execute with limited supervision
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to think strategically
  • The initiative to seek greater knowledge about the systems, processes and hazards in the workplace to understand not just what you do but why you do it
  • The ability to ask what could go wrong and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential problems
  • A continuous improvement mindset with strong analytical and decision-making capacity

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
