Are you an electrical expert? In this role, you will support the maintenance and operations of Fort Hills fixed plant assets, evaluating and assisting when required, predictive maintenance (PdM) condition monitoring of electrical equipment and assist the Reliability team with trending to predict failure modes. You will build a strong reliability and maintenance culture within the area maintenance groups and increase the integrity of site electrical systems.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Review, develop and update equipment preventative maintenance
  • Work with our Reliability Engineering group to ensure that predictive and preventative maintenance plans and strategies are in place to maximize the area equipment reliability and availability
  • Assist with the scope development for major and turnaround maintenance events
  • Pursue maintenance learning through continuous improvement of maintenance procedures
  • Monitor new project design and construction with input into the design
  • Participate in post-event failure analysis and root cause discussions and help develop solutions
  • Ensure that preventative maintenance guidelines are adhered to
  • Maintain complete and accurate records associated with the technical and preventative aspects of this position 
  • Review and apply continuous improvement opportunities to safe work practices, procedures and standards to ensure safe and reliable work execution
  • Develop knowledge of site craft to a higher level of understanding with respect to operation and maintenance utilizing Infrared thermography and motor condition monitoring

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Eight years’ experience working in mining, oil and gas, pulp and paper, petro-chemical or a similar heavy industrial environment
  • Experience in the 600 V, 5 kV, and 13.8 kV equipment ranges
  • An Electrical Engineering Technologist Diploma with a Valid Alberta Journeyperson Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Certificate in an electrical trade
  • A deep understanding of maintenance and operations as related to the safe and efficient production of bitumen
  •  A thorough understanding of PLCs, VFDs, UPS, motor control centers, switchgear, motorized actuated valves, relays, motors, substation and other electrical equipment
  • Familiarity with computerized management systems
  • Strong initiative, problem solving and analytical skills
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our camp-based Fort Hills mining site, located in Alberta’s Athabasca region, 90 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • The shift schedule is a 7 days on /7 days off rotation (7 days on, 7 days off, 12 hour shifts)
  • This position is safety sensitive
