You will use your expertise to:

  • Bring about positive change and promote inclusion by supporting various employee programs and initiatives
  • Collaborate with leaders to provide strategic counsel and communications support while building positive relationships
  • Provide advice to our functional groups
  • Collaborate with highly motivated members of the Upstream communications team to ensure alignment in approaches, messaging, and the use of tools and processes across our entire business
  • Work with Change Management specialists to ensure large initiatives with change impacts are appropriately communicated, both internally and externally
  • Understand, engage, and show integrity as an ambassador for the services model, our brand, and communications processes on behalf of the chief sustainability office, where the communications function resides
  • Build a deep understanding of the oil sands business to provide business leaders and communications partners with critical communications advice on key issues and risks and help navigate reputational challenges
  • Provide dedicated support to the business in real-time during emergencies or critical events as a member of the on-call rotation
  • Contribute to and provide support for the communications tools and vehicles the team uses to reach a variety of audiences   

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Three years of experience in communications, preferably within a corporate communications or business partner setting, or a combination of post-secondary education and six years of relevant experience
  • A University degree or related post-secondary diploma/certificate in communications, public relations, business, or an associated field
  • Exceptional communications skills, including planning, research, writing (print and web), editing and measurement
  • Strong, confirmed interpersonal, conflict management and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite with a strong working knowledge of Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

  • The ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities
  • An ability to manage client expectations and develop great partnerships, while managing priorities

Preference for:

  • Experience in the oil and gas industry or other natural resource industry
  • A background or familiarity with both change and reputation management
  • Experience as a communication consultant to internal or external client groups with experience helping clients handle communication issues and reputational challenges
  • A demonstrated ability to carry unstructured projects to completion within a changing environment, and build strong, positive relationships with different types of people and diverse groups at many organizational levels

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible candidates
  • Compensation will be commensurate with experience
