Job Overview

Reporting to the director, environmental health and safety (EH&S), you will provide support to our Montréal refinery in the development, implementation and maintenance of emergency and continuity management solutions. You will be tasked with continuously improving business processes while aligning with regulatory requirements, industry standards and best practices.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain our emergency response programs
  • Coordinate required drills and exercises, prepare timely reports to accurately reflect the outcome of exercises and findings to drive continuous improvement
  • Participate in community awareness, emergency response networks and mutual aid organizations
  • Develop and maintain existing or new preparedness plans, response plans and procedures
  • Establish and maintain emergency response teams consistent with the emergency response plans
  • Evaluate regulatory requirements and standard methodologies relating to preparedness, response, management in coordination with the business
  • Improve employee awareness with respect to emergency preparedness by developing effective training programs and providing guidance for personnel
  • Manage the selection, procurement and maintenance of emergency response facilities, equipment and infrastructure
  • Perform technical writing functions that includes: editing plans and reports, and writing at the appropriate level for the target audience
  • Support other initiatives and programs related to EH&S

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Minimum of five years of experience working in emergency/safety related roles
  • Previous experience in emergency response roles and activities in oil and gas, industrial, marine, or transportation industries preferred
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma; preferably in health and safety, disaster and emergency management or equivalent is an asset
  • Completion of Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 300 level training is an asset
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Bilingual (English and French)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and Visio
  • Knowledge of industry regulations locally, provincially, nationally and internationally
  • Demonstrated leadership and facilitating skills, with experience developing and implementing emergency response and continuity plans including: response requirements, exercise design and coordination
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with advanced skills in presentation, negotiation, training, coaching and mentoring
  • Proven ability in collaborating with cross-functional teams in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • You constantly ask what could go wrong and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential problems

Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • This position is based at our Montréal refinery
  • You may be required to respond without notice to support major incidents/events
