Are you looking for a leadership opportunity in Transmission and Distribution (T&D)? Our best-in-class team is hiring a new member who will provide high voltage expertise and be responsible for defining facility scopes of work (13.8kV to 260kV), assisting with maintenance execution strategies, and directing a team of power system electricians and linepersons. You will collaborate with the operations team to ensure the safe operation of our high voltage assets for isolation and restoration purposes.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Provide safety-driven front-line leadership for the workforce and ensure development and competency of the crew
  • Ensure compliance to all relevant Suncor policies and standards including the management of change process and maintenance business processes
  • Ensure the weekly maintenance schedule is safely and efficiently executed
  • Assist in developing the scope of work for operations and maintenance execution planning
  • Prepare and review operational job plans by investigating work requirements, preparing logical breakdowns and sequencing of work tasks taking into account multi-craft alignment
  • Provide coverage for the other shift supervisor(s) as required
  • Maintain a visible presence in the field to ensure safety driven employee engagement, communications, and work assessment to verify effectiveness.
  • Work closely with the training department to ensure all team members are trained and competent in their respective trade.
  • Provide the leadership and mentorship to help identify risks items and defined action plans and opportunities for improvement
  • Drive the “first hours of work” program by ensuring frequent reviews of field level hazard assessments, safe work permits, hazardous energy isolations, and grounding and bonding safe work plans

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Eight years of high voltage experience as a power system electrician, lineperson, power system operator, or as technical specialist in a utility-based environment, with at least three of those years in a leadership role
  • Experience in the execution of high voltage switching orders
  • A post-secondary technical diploma or degree, power system electrician, power system operator or linesman certification
  • A High School Diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or equivalent
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record 
  • Deep understanding of maintenance, operations and safety standards on electrical T&D apparatus at 13.8kV to 260kV
  • Proficiency in the application of equipotential bonding and grounding
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and at least one industry standard enterprise resource planning tool (preferably SAP)
  • Working knowledge of required regulatory agencies such as the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO)
  • The understanding of complex high voltage operating environments and how to handle conflicting priorities

Preference for:

  • Commissioning experience
  • Proficiency in directing and leading within a unionized work environment
  • An adaptive work style, with the ability to handle multiple tasks, challenging demands and function in a dynamic and diverse work environment

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Base Plant facility in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • The shift schedule is a 5 days on/4 days off/5 days on, followed by 5 days off/4 days on/5 days off rotation, 12-hour shifts
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
  • Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible candidates
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • This position is security sensitive - you must clear a criminal history check
