Job Overview

Want to be responsible for helping to lead the standup of Suncor’s autonomous haulage portfolio at our Fort Hills mine site? You will report to the manager of autonomous haulage system (AHS) operations, and as assets and infrastructure are dynamically deployed, you will initially support the implementation team in the commissioning, startup and subsequent debottlenecking of early AHS operating phases. Once stabilized, you will demonstrate the expertise you’ve developed to facilitate and de-risk the onboarding of your operational peers, ultimately leading to the transformation of Fort Hills’ mine operating model.

Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with AHS implementation team peers to develop and execute integrated plans for AHS deployment
  • Support the development of AHS focused management tools and procedures to best set the operation up for success
  • Lead cultural change management to facilitate required operational mindset shift
  • Enables development of operational system competency and facilitates competency transfer to balance of operations peers
  • Work closely with shift trainers to ensure skill sets and training requirements are being met
  • Geographic area authority and operational risk management of AHS operating footprint while on shift
  • Direct leadership and performance management oversight for AHS field and dispatch supervisors
  • Collaborate with functional peers (i.e. mine planning, maintenance, EHS) to drive business results
  • Provide back-up to the departmental manager position

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • 15 years of experience in relation to mining operations with a minimum of five years in a leadership capacity (superintendent/supervisory)
  • Previous experience working in a start-up mining operation or new technology deployment would be considered an asset
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Effective leadership skills with the ability to engage and inspire front line employees in a positive manner; you hold yourself and others accountable to always ”do the right thing,” and expect others to do the same
  • Collaborate with others in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • Proven ability to effectively handle risk, change and the capacity to make sound and timely decisions aligned with corporate goals and values
  • Strong working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and a deep understanding of loss management techniques
  • Knowledge of mining dispatch systems and support applications would be an asset

Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • This is a camp-based position at the Fort Hills site however periodic travel to Calgary will be initially required to support planning activities
  • The shift schedule is a seven days on/seven days off rotation (seven days on, seven days off, seven nights on, seven nights off; 12-hour shifts)
