Would you like to lead the geotechnical engineering quality assurance (QA) programs at Suncor in Fort McMurray? This phenomenal opportunity will allow you to work with the Mine Operations Support Manager, to support technical mentorship for our monitoring resources. You will provide geotechnical engineering QA services to ensure that construction execution meets the requirements of our geotechnical standards.

 You will use your expertise to:

  • Administer the implementation of geotechnical Issued For Construction (IFC) work packages
  • Coordinate and implement field geotechnical Quality Assurance (QA) programs and review the field quality control programs
  • Provide technical direction and interpretation for the QA construction engineers and field services teams
  • Ensure a QA interface within the short range planning groups, site constructor groups and construction contractors
  • Provide constructability recommendations to designs by working with geotechnical design leads and participate in design issued for review (IFR) documents
  • Coordinate with partners to ensure the request for information and non-conformance issues are processed and implemented as per standard procedures
  • Ensure construction as-built information is documented and compiled into as-built reports and ensure implementation of the management of change process for construction related activities

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 8 - 10 years of experience in large civil earthworks construction projects, which include: field construction, dam performance monitoring, construction quality assurance, inspection and testing
  • An Engineering degree in civil (geotechnical), or mining or another related field
  • Been registered or are immediately eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Preference for:

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite; AutoCAD or MineScape is preferred
  • An excellent communicator with the ability to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups
  • Capable of understanding, anticipating and responding to the needs of mining engineering and operations groups
  • Well-developed critical thinking skills, with an ability to apply logic and challenge assumptions, conclusions and make appropriate recommendations
  • A strong continuous improvement mindset and continually seek greater knowledge about the systems, processes and hazards in the workplace, in order to understand not just what you do but why you do it
  • Holding others accountable, and expect others to do the same

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Stoney Creek Vollage office in Fort McMurray, Alberta, located at 108 Riverstone Ridge
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible individuals
