Job Overview

Are you an Aboriginal student currently in your second year of a common law degree program at a Canadian university? We have a great opportunity for you. You will be working in our legal affairs department in Calgary and will assist our team in the provision of legal services and support to Suncor.

Key Accountabilities

  • Conduct legal research, analysis and draft memorandums
  • Draft commercial agreements and assist with regulatory matters
  • Assist team members with project work
  • Participate in meetings with Suncor's legal affairs team and internal clients

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • You are currently a 2nd year Aboriginal student in a common law degree program at a Canadian university and returning to full-time studies at the conclusion of this position
  • Must be eligible for and registered in the Law Society of Alberta’s 2019 Indigenous Law Student Summer Employment Program
  • Attach your most recent transcripts with your application in order to be considered

Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the oil and gas industry is desirable
  • High degree of flexibility and the ability to readily adapt to changes in priorities and plans
  • Creative problem solver with a proven ability to work towards achieving a desired business outcome within corporate and legal parameters
  • You are a highly motivated, self-starter with solid business judgment
  • You hold others accountable, and expect others to do the same

Working Conditions

  • This is a student position for a term of 4 months starting in May 2019
