Under the general direction of the Site Environmental Lead, and in collaboration with other site representatives, will perform field and office duties to ensure the Keeyask Generation Project is undertaken in compliance with environmental approvals (licences, permits, authorizations, etc.) and/or environmental protection plans.

We are seeking a Site Environmental Inspector to be a part of our Keeyask Project, for a term OF approximately 28 months. The work location will be at the Keeyask Construction site with single status accommodations. You will reside in a modern construction camp hotel-like facility that is among the highest quality facilities of its kind in the country. The Keeyask Camp includes top notch recreation facilities including full gymnasium with two sports courts, indoor running track, weight room, games room, movie theater and restaurant-style dining complex. Staff will work a rotational schedule that consists of 21 days at the Keeyask site followed by 7 days off. You must be prepared to travel and work outside normal business hours and you will be required to take Cross Cultural Awareness Training at the project site. Airfare and transportation to site will be provided by Manitoba Hydro.

The Keeyask Project is a collaborative effort between Manitoba Hydro and four Manitoba First Nations – Tataskweyak Cree Nation, York Factory First Nation, Fox Lake Cree Nation and War Lake First Nation – working together as the Keeyask Hydropower Limited Partnership (KHLP). The project is located 725 kilometers northeast of Winnipeg on the lower Nelson River and 30 kilometers west of Gillam, Manitoba.

Responsibilities:
-Perform daily field inspections and reporting to ensure compliance with environmental protection plans (EnvPPs), other regulatory approvals, corporate policies and the Environmental Management System (EMS).
-Participate in the collection of information and data related to any biophysical or socio-economic monitoring plans.
-Prepare and submit reports regularly to ensure thorough documentation and recording of environmental protection aspects of projects.
-Undertake investigations of environmental incidents and prepare written reports and recommendations.
-Assist with inspection related to construction activities.
-Assist with administrative and operational functions including safety management and equipment and facility coordination.
-Participate in safety and environmental training.
-Follow all safety protocols and safe work procedures established by Manitoba Hydro.
-Participate in site safety/environment meetings.

Qualifications:
-A diploma in Environmental Studies or Technology from an institute of recognized standing and a minimum of two years related experience including the ability to work competently in environmental inspecting and monitoring (such as field/site inspections, water sampling, field assessment of vegetation, aquatic species and wildlife), and the use of GPS equipment.
-Possess mature judgment; ability to succeed with minimal supervision both independently and as a team member in an active construction environment.
-Demonstrated ability to operate computers and familiar with Microsoft office software.
-Advanced written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
-Ability to work effectively with staff at all levels, Indigenous and First Nation community representatives, regulators, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders and participants.
-Physically capable of performing the duties of the position, as well as an adequate mechanical and technical aptitude to satisfy all requirements of working with equipment and tools in remote conditions.
-Required to travel by rotary or fixed wing aircraft, ATV, Snowmobile and boat as necessitated by job conditions.
-Possess a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence with appropriate class.
