ACADEMIC RESPIROLOGIST

The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University, and Hamilton Health Sciences invite applicants for an Academic Physician to join the Division of Respirology. Academic rank will commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

The applicant’s primary role will be working as an Academic Respirologist with a special interest in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and severe airway diseases. An established record of translational research in this area will be considered an asset, given the opportunities for collaboration within the McMaster airway disease group. Additional training and education (and preferably a graduate degree)  in airway diseases is a requirement, including the interpretation of airway biomarkers (sputum inflammometry, exhaled nitric oxide) and bronchial provocation tests (direct and indirect) for disease management, and experience with the selection and prescription of monoclonal antibodies in severe asthma. Clinical responsibilities include inpatient respirology consultation and pulmonary rehabilitation services, as well as bronchoscopy, and general respirology and complex airway disease clinics. The successful candidate will be a full time member of the Division of Respirology and is expected to contribute to the academic mission of the Faculty and Division.  This is a Clinician Educator position and the successful candidate is required to have experience in undergraduate and post-graduate education. In addition, innovative and scholarly research and the aptitude for collaboration would be expected.

Applicants should be licensed or eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and should be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.   Applicants must have also completed sub-speciality training in Respiratory Medicine and have additional training/education in complex airway disease. The successful candidate will be expected to fully participate in all appropriate departmental and divisional educational activities, and on-call responsibilities.
