The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences invites applicants for an Academic Physician to join the Division of Hematology & Thromboembolism as a Research Educator for July, 2019 at the Assistant Professor rank.

The successful applicant will be a full-time member of the Division of Hematology & Thromboembolism and is expected to participate in a combination of clinical, research and educational activities. Clinical activities will include participation in clinical service at the McMaster-Niagara Hemophilia Program, McMaster Site, and the Thromboembolism program at the Juravinski Hospital.

The McMaster-Niagara Hemophilia Program provides clinical care for a catchment area of 1.2 million people; receives patient referrals from all LINS in South-Western Ontario and follows approximately 450 patients with bleeding disorders. The program runs a weekly clinic and covers emergencies and consultation for the HHS hospitals 5 days per week, operating with the multidisciplinary team model. The Thrombosis Service at the Juravinski Hospital provides care for outpatients and inpatients with clotting disorders, with particular focus on cancer related thrombosis.

The successful applicant is expected to develop an independent research line and perform activities including wet laboratory research in the field of bleeding disorders. Research activities should complement the clinical research lines already well established in the field at McMaster University.

Applicants should be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the Province of Ontario. Additionally, applicants must have completed a PhD or equivalent; have specific training in the fields of pharmacology or clinical biochemistry, and fellowship training in bleeding disorders. Preference will be given to candidates who have established experience in basic research in the field of bleeding disorders, as documented by peer review publication, research grant awards and prizes.  Experience in clinical management of patients with bleeding disorders would be considered an asset.
